What is Ugly Christmas Sweater Day?

Ugly Christmas Sweater Day is the day you wear a Christmas sweater that is as ugly as possible. Think of a reindeer with a red nose, Santa, a snowman or a sweater with real lights. Everyone joins in, so nobody looks out of place.

The idea comes from England. There, the charity Save the Children has held Christmas Jumper Day since 2012: you wear a Christmas sweater and make a small donation for children. Save the Children Netherlands also held its own version of the day. JAP Christmas does not organise the day. We make the sweaters.

When is Ugly Christmas Sweater Day 2026?

In 2026, Ugly Christmas Sweater Day falls on Friday 18 December, the third Friday of December. If that day does not suit you, pick another day together with your colleagues, your class or your family. The last working day or school day before the Christmas holidays works well: then it falls on the same day as the Christmas party or the Christmas celebration.

In England, where the idea comes from, Christmas Jumper Day is a week earlier, on Thursday 10 December.

At the office
